Tirupati: A 60-year-old woman got into a scuffle with vigilance and security guards of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams at Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala in the early hours on Saturday.
According to TTD sources, the woman entered the temple via the Sarvadarshan queue early in the morning. After she entered the sanctum sanctorum, she began hurling abuse at the Srivari sevaks and other devotees.
Realising that the woman might have a mental disability, pilgrim volunteers escorted her outside.
After the Srivari sevaks took the woman outside the ‘Vendi Vakili’ — silver gated entrance — a female security guard then tried to escort the woman outside the Tirumala temple but the 60-year-old woman physically attacked the guard. The female security guard retaliated and allegedly slapped the 60-year-old woman.
A group of vigilance and security guards along with other TTD staff came to the rescue and overpowered the woman and took her outside the temple premises.
It was learnt that senior TTD officials have ordered an internal inquiry into the incident and CCTV footage were checked to verify the sequence of events.
TTD sources said the identity of the woman could not be established as she entered the temple through the Sarvadarshan queue.
